Welcome to Moved with Peace!
Your Journey Begins here
Welcome! Ciao! Hi, y’all. I’m Stephanie, an immigrant ( I could say expat but that’s not the term I identify with), a third culture kid who moved to Italy with my hubby and two babes six years ago.
This space, place, blog, and haven is where you as a nomad, immigrant, or expat can share your experiences living abroad. It’s about what life is like after the honeymoon period ends. When life in the host country ain’t a vacation anymore. It’s also about mental health struggles, and navigating the day-to-day with mental illness in an unfamiliar place. And my journey living here in Italy.
Yeah, it’s been a roller coaster, for sure! I thought “Maybe it’s time to go back to the U.S.” were too many to count. But instead of saying “We’re going to stick this out”, the idea was let’s see where this goes. And now six years later I can say I finally feel settled. Woo chile, it feels great to say that actually!
Understanding the Immigrant Experience
I come from a family of immigrants. My grandmother immigrated to the U.S. from Guyana in the seventies.
Here is her passport stamped upon arrival. She settled in New Jersey and started to build a new life.
My mom and uncle immigrated to the U.S. too from Guyana. I’m an Air Force kid born in Germany and was stationed in many places. Being a nomad is in my blood. I’ve learned how to navigate new spaces and new places. With challenges, struggles, and setbacks along the way. I’ll dive into those here too. Trying to find my new tribe, making friends over 30, and building trust with strangers was no easy feat. Then add to the mix immersing yourself in a new culture, new language, social forays, and traditions, oof it’s a lot! But…I’m still here, and you’re probably still exploring life where you are and that is EVERYTHING! I didn’t initially move to Italy with peace but I did find it along the way. Let’s cross this journey together.
Attraversiamo 💛
