Making Thanksgiving Feel Special When Living Abroad

Hello Moved With Peace Tribe! Today is Thanksgiving, and if you’re living abroad and celebrating, I’d love to know—what are the little things about this day that make you smile? What reminds you of home?

I have fond memories of Thanksgiving in the US and living in Germany. I remember having family around, gathering together—aunts and uncles, cousins, grandmas and grandpas. Everyone was in the kitchen helping to cook their version of their favorite recipes. That has always been a special part of Thanksgiving for me.

In our family, we gather around the table, and each says something we’re thankful for—what we are blessed to have in our lives. I’ve been reflecting on the word for 2024 this year, and honestly, I hadn’t settled on one until recently. If I had to choose now, it would be “community.” 🙂

The community I have made here has been so important to me. And I am so grateful and blessed to have made the friends that I have. And built/created beautiful new memories. So, part of that for me is community. This Thanksgiving this year, my husband and I celebrated a little bit early by hosting at his home restaurant, a 19 person Thanksgiving dinner, and we were able to share our love for Thanksgiving and the experience with a collective group of people from Italy, from the US, from different parts of the world, and just come together.

Happy Thanksgiving! I wish you many blessings for the rest of this season and into 2025!
